Sunkeeper
A Sunkeeper is the pride and joy of the Order of the Sunkeepers and it takes years of learning and experience in order to acquire. Once the title is earned, a Sunkeeper is brought to the inner circle of the Order where they can join in the inner workings of the temples and be by the side of the Head Sunkeeper, Kiva, who communes directly with their god The Radiant King.
The requirements of a Sunkeeper are to be an officially ranked Sunbright Knight, Dawnlight Healer, and Dusknight Alchemist. This means a single person must be extremely proficient in combat, healing, and alchemy. There are many who have the aptitude for combat, but their magic doesn’t allow them to heal, or they may have the aptitude for healing and alchemy but not for combat, thus they can not become a Sunkeeper.
To become a Sunbright Knight one must master the combat method of the Sun Temples which is to use concentrated light magic as a weapon. The concentrated light magic can melt stone and pierce through trees as if they were paper. The weapon itself is whatever form the Sunbright Knight desires, so the Sunbright Knights are also known for their versatility due to many changing the shape of the weapon mid-fight to be more advantageous.
To become a Dawnlight Healer, one must be gifted with a magic type that is able to heal and be very proficient with Stitching. Stitching is a difficult to learn magic and is still sometimes considered the magic of demons since demons are the ones that originally used it most commonly. One wrong move with Stitching can result in the death of the patient, so many are hesitant to learn it let alone be skilled enough to master it since Stitching is a magic that changes organic matter on a cellular level. A common comparison would be if you are using light or water magic to heal, it is akin to having the materials to build the house along with the blueprints and a crew of skilled craftsmen to do the work for you, whereas Stitching is akin to having the materials to a house in front of you and being told “Good luck”. While healing magic is excellent for repairing cuts and various illnesses, Stitching is able to completely reform a body as long as there is organic matter to change into what you need. Healing magic uses your own magic to supply its abilities, but Stitching requires materials equivalent to what you are trying to repair or make.
To become a Dusknight Alchemist, one follows the route of potions and science. The Dusknight Alchemists follow The Apothecary, Goddess of Potions, more closely than The Radiant King, God of the Sun and God of healing, since The Apothecary is more in line for what they wish to learn. The Apothecary is The Radiant King’s wife, so many of the Order worship her as well as The Radiant King. A Dusknight Alchemist must be proficient in identifying ingredients, procuring, and refining said ingredients. A Dusknight Alchemist is often considered a walking encyclopedia when it concerns ingredients and things that could potentially be ingredients for potions and the like.
In order to become a Sunkeeper, one must be officially titled in all three of the branches of the Order of the Sunkeeper. Impressive combat experience, extensive knowledge of healing, stitching, and potions, sums up a Sunkeeper. They are respected by all and even a king would not act foolishly towards a Sunkeeper.
Hey! I like the idea of the Sunbright's ability to reshape their weapons. Are there any limitations to this (melee only, time restraints)?
The restraint the imagination and the control they have over their magic. The time restraint is when they run out of magic. There are archers who make arrows out of the light magic and shoot the arrows (which is a little more difficult to do than a melee weapon), but some knights choose the form of a scythe, a mace, scimitar, a spear, greatsword, and more. However, all knights are trained in one handed sword and shield combat. Additional weapons they must find their own training for, but many older knights have no issue with training the newer apprentices in the art of multiple weapons
