Regional Staples

Solaria is home to sakura forests, winding rivers, and dense woods. The edges of Solaria vary vastly since it is the central continent and shares water borders with many other continents. Though one thing that can be found at just about every dinner table would be rice. Be it in the form of sushi, rice balls, fried, or just eaten plain. Another staple would be tea. Every Solarian town likely has at least three tea shops that pride themselves of being the best in the world. There is a very high regard for tea masters and etiquette regarding tea along with its preparation in one’s own home be it for personal or ritual use.

Upper Kaldanar is often known as the land of the nobles. They are very high strung on their hierarchy and decorum, making sure never to falter with their facade even in the face of danger. This country being thousands of feet above everything else surrounded by nothing but cliffsides has ideals as lofty as the clouds that surround them. As such, a staple for nearly every table that can afford it would be wine. Another things the locals pride themselves on besides their title, wings, and horns would be the age old art of vinting with the local fruits. Even commoners will make wine for themselves if they are able to collect the fruits in the wilds.

Lower Kaldanar is vastly different and is the land of nomads. Plains that stretch as far as the eye can see from ocean to ocean. There are some settlements that make a ring around the outer edge of Lower Kaldanar and they tend to make grains since many of those who live there are vegetarian in nature. Things made from grains, especially breads, are quite popular and seen often throughout the settlements with these being traded by the caravans that pass through along their travel routes.

Yunia is the land of eternal winter. Even in summer this country is still covered in snow. The people here are toughened by the cold and eat primarily what they hunt. The staple here would be an assortment of meats be it hunted or raised. There isn’t much else since the primary inhabitants of Yunia are mostly carnivorous. There is no shortage of alcohol, though. If there is a meal to be had, there is likely a strong ale or mead to go along with it.

Vulca is a continent and country that exist on an active volcano. The ground is constantly covered in ash with the sky always being dusky and dark. Not much vegetation grows here and what does grow is nutritious but spicy. A staple for the Vulcari are their spices. They love bold flavors and foods that make them breathe fire, sometimes literally. The bazaar in Vulcari is always a heavy mix of a hundred colorful spices from the vendors and it is their most prized export.

Fiyuki is often seen as a wasteland of dunes except for its three shining gems, the Oases. The Oases have built up large cities around their water sources and because it is a desert, their staple would be their water. Water is almost a second form of currency and those that can afford to waste it are only those that live like kings.

Bartani is an outpost port for the mer and is the central hub for their trade with the land dwellers. There are plenty of fish to eat and tropical fruits along with whatever the traders have brought in for the day. The foods there change like the clouds in the sky but the cooking certainly makes use of the wide variety of ingredients you likely would not see anywhere else.
