Nishi in the World

The Nishi are a proud people with spirit companions of the feline persuasion. The original Nishi are known as Nishikai and they hail from the jungle region of Rasvata. There has been a branch of Nishi that have become more accustomed to domestic life rather than the wilds of Rasvata. Their animal spirits changed to become more small cats rather than large cats. The Nishi with small cats are called Nishiko.

Nishikai are predominantly found in Rasvata and Fiyuki, a desert region to the south east of Rasvata. The Nishikai in Fiyuki have come to have desert oriented felines such as lions and cheetahs, whereas the Nishikai of Rasvata have tigers and jaguars. There are of course the more magical variants such as the very rare Davajinn or even Shadow Dancer, but many have more non-magical spirit companions. Nishiko are more commonly found on the central continent of Solaria or at the mer trading hub Bartani. They are also commonly found in Lower Kaldanar traveling with the nomads.

Nishi as a whole are good at tracking, stealthy movements, and general light fingered actions. There are a few that are also quite talented at magic and are hired as mages for scholarly or military purposes or they take their magic abilities to be used for general work such lighting fires for forges, powering the shadow gates, healing in small clinics, and many more small tasks.

A nishi’s spirit companion is typically passed down through the mother. This is especially the case if they are a second generation nishi, as in they are only half nishi. A second generation nishi mother will pass on the nishi spirit to all of her children and then on be passed only through the females, but a second generation nishi father will not pass his spirit on. A first generation nishi’s spirit will be passed on regardless.

There are cases of some human families occasionally having a nishi born, since it will lay as a dormant and recessive gene in the bloodline and can spontaneously appear.
