Valerion Equilumos

Valerion Equilumos was born a dragon in the Second Age during The Great War. Not much is known of his origins -- the details of his birth, his earliest years -- and in fact, it is very hard for historians to trace his actual history. This is because halfway through the war, Valerion transformed himself into a human in order to join the conflict. Thus were his beginnings forgotten, and he reemerged as Valerion of the Unknown Lands, a Nameless mortal without a past.   Valerion wanted to join the fight against Necrovar, but because the dragons refused to join the war (for reasons still unknown to modern-age historians and scholars), Valerion was forbidden from engaging in the conflict. This is ultimately what prompted him to take drastic action and change himself, becoming a human so he would be able to fight without fear of repercussions from his kin.   After Valerion was reborn in his human form, he began training as a warrior. He rose to power quickly, for even in his human body he was still able to wield lightmagic. Other mortals, therefore, believed him to be a savior and saw his coming as a sign from the gods. After Valerion joined the World Alliance, he rose quickly through the ranks until he was commanding his own legions.   Toward the end of the war, when it became clear to Valerion that Necrovar was a foe unparalleled, who could not be defeated by any mortal means, he went to the gods and beseeched them for their help in ending the bloodshed. Though all gods are restricted by The Binding Laws, there was enough leeway in Valerion's murky heritage for them to determine that he was not a true mortal, and therefore they might be able to work with him through that particular loophole in their laws.   Ultimately, Valerion sacrificed himself to the gods, and they used the pure energy of his magicsource to weave a spell to imprison Necrovar. This spell in turn created The Etherworld, and there has Necrovar languished these past ten ages.
