Bonding

Bonding is the process a dragon and mortal undergo when their souls connect. Sometimes the bonding takes years, sometimes it happens within days -- the process is initiated by the dragon, whose soul contains valemagic, which is what powers the change.   During the bonding process, an individual dragon's soul will reach out and assimilate to an individual mortal's soul. Thereafter, the soul of the dragon and its mortal counterpart are connected, and the two become bonded. The term for a bonded pair is "bondmates".   Once a dragon and mortal have bonded, and their souls are connected, the two are able to share thoughts, feelings, and magic alike. This connection manifests physically in the mortal counterpart with purple eyes. There is no physical manifestation of the process for a dragon bondmate, but the dragon will thereafter be able to emote, and will also be as vulnerable as a mortal, sacrificing its longevity and its immunity to the base and higher magics.
