Vaeriar

The peoples created by the Tiefbromn in the western jungles of Adalon. One of the worst treated of any group, they were commonly tortured by the Tiefbromn with its acidic breath, gaining the draconic name of Dancers by the dragons for how they would move when burned. Their natural adaptations make them very good sailors and dock workers, runners, (freshwater) divers, etc.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bipedal, though they can run on all siix. Very thick skin, coated in mucus designed to slick off acid. Also has the benefit of making them hyperbouyant in water. Have four arms, clustered around the same joints (as opposed to being spaced out along the torso), with two large opposing thumbs and two large fingers on each hand. Have unique pads (like a gecko) on each hand, allowing for identification and also immense climbing and sticking ability. Exceptionally fast, featuring piston-like legs with wide feetpads that allow for very fast, low-to-the-ground movement. Very awkward for swimming.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Underdeveloped eyes that are pretty light-sensitive, leading to aversion to bright areas and limited greyscale vision. Instead, mostly scent-based (developed to identify the smell of acid, telltale of a Tiefbromn), with accurate hearing and limited tremorsense. Mucus membrane also weakens sense of touch, as much can interact with the outer layer without ever contacting the actual Vaeriar, but is offset by them being very sensitive to touch in areas where the mucus membrane isn't (genitalia and inside of jointed areas, where mucus would slow them down). Mucus dries out in non-tropical climates very fast, leading them to cover their body up, stay tropical or coastal, and avoid arid regions.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Names are often repetitive (Kumkur, Malmot, etc.), duo-syllabic. Given at birth.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

The giving of a Khevari is very special, sacred even. They are sometimes kept as family heirlooms, especially if it was used to kill a Tiefbromn, and given burial rites and honorific ceremonies when they break. Vaeriar are buried with their Khevari, and is first given when each Khevari reaches adulthood- they spend their childhood crafting them, learning to care for them, and create their own masterpiece (usually of bone, Tiefbromn being the ideal when they were still around, but strong bone, then coated with metal in important areas) to be gifted at adulthood.

Common Taboos

Scared of fire, and Tiefbromn are a big taboo no-no, conversation around them was heavily avoided and now has lessened up, but still held in evil reverence. Positive reviews of them are unacceptable.
