The Blood Star
First appearing in the sub-sector sometime in the Age of Strife after the reemergence of the Ornis system. The Blood Star has stood testament to the cursed nature of of the galaxy. None know of its true origins or its actual nature as an astral body. It continues however to hang within the Stream, glowing with a maleficent light.
Localized Phenomena
The Blood Star's foreboding history and appearance are not the only aspects of the star that have made it the subject of fearful stories within the stream. Humans that look directly at the star seem to become increasingly agitated and their sight turn in ever increasing degrees of monochromatic hues of red. This phenomenon is present throughout the stream to a point that many cultures have developed folklore surrounding the effects. This condition does seem to be affected by distance and it is systems closer to the star that feel this phenomenon more severely.
Direct exposure to the star has had a far more chilling effect as sporadic reports of crews exposed to the Blood Star's light seem to almost instantly go blind and feel stabbing pain in the back of their skulls to the point of madness. Even the use of remote viewing from vid captures at the range of local space can have similar effects as the more distant parts of the sub-sector if not reverted to a colorless hue first. even if not exposed to direct light, ambient glow from the star seems to heighten paranoia in those exposed for extended periods as subjects report slowly "seeing the color dissolve into the red of the star".
