Ghothe (Gow-th)
Ghothe are people often known to be found across the eastern mountain sides of Basillua. They tend to live in tight rural villages, trusting mostly small leaders and clan heritage. They are strong people in their own ways, but tend to travel around in smaller sets and have been contentious or outright caught and enslaved in some crueler parts west of their homes. However much of the darker disputes have been settled early into the Common Scholar Periods, and its more common of them to be designated simpler as the 'mountain people', or 'pale ones' of the land.
They tend to appear paler, with darker common hair colors, though blond is still found in some rare cases especially among younger men. Their shoulders tend to be more broad, and jaws more squared, giving a tougher and sturdy look. Its common for men to have beards, and mid-length hair, and for females to put their long hair in braids.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
More of an outdated form of language in speech and writing was something called Rokye, mostly fading slowly from use and teachings since 400pdp. They quickly picked up the wider language, and more openly use that, with it estimated only 30% in 900csp could read and speak most Rokye. Its still popular for some runic and heritage use, but also sometimes trivialized in mere tokens others might collect, or scroll a 'funny rune' onto something for looks.
Shared customary codes and values
The Ghothe are family-forward people. They thrive in colder climates, where settlements of cabins, firewood, stories, and hunting tales fill their spirits. They worshipped gods mostly related to harvest, family, and survival. As Akrinian culture seeped more with their own, they came to shift their semantics, but not their internal fortitude and lifestyles. They adopted ideas around gods like Perfiaat for crops (as a brown hare), Sytiha (as a blonde woman) for fertility and feminine standards, and Celisman for hunting. They have little opinions related to Chaos, world origins, and suggest a lack of need for calling on gods related to those matters. Instead they believe dark spirits answer for the wrongs, and often identify them close with serpentine and draconian creatures. Any sign of devotion to them is thought a sign of an ill person or family, relative to vampirism.
They depend more on ideals around family and duty, and strongly shape their life towards it. For proper marriage, one must form a legend worth passing onto the family, or fulfill a sense of clan quest. For a man to own land, he must prove he can provide and hunt. For females to have power, they must prove they can use it for good and nurturing cause by example of their farm work, tailoring, or a partial-raised healthy child.
Ideals
Gender Ideals
They have a slight Patriarchal leaning, with most males standing a chance to claim land and travel by near birthright, as long as they seem capable and health enough to sustain their constitutions. A female however, has more subjective standards to meet. While they may still own land, and hold community sway, they don't carry it as easily, and are often restricted to leave far from the village with the idea that they must be protected, and must be the ones to help protect the young and home. While a woman is encouraged to take up arms to do so, they aren't as broadly educated in arms, and are forbidden from adventuring in the same way a man might do. In the simpler terms, they want strong families with a male being the core muscle and voice, and the woman being the backbone support.
