Magic Mist

Magic use leaves behind a small residue in the atmosphere. Normally it will dissipate without any affect. However, larger uses of magic or several large spells will cause a build up of this residue and create a visible mist known as magic mist.   Like water mist, this type of mist creates variable levels of visibility depending upon the thickness.  It can cut of visibility three miles away or even at only five feet - although, the smaller distances are very rare. However, because of it's magical nature it also has other affects.   The mist itself is magic, causing detect magic spells to be nearly useless. It also makes detecting magically creatures more difficult. The magic mist also causes all spells within it to become more potent - often with a type of splash effect, although accuracy becomes more difficult. This also varies depending upon the thickness of the mist.   An example of how spells are affected:
  • Summon Elemental would summon a higher level creature, but placement and control will be more difficult.
  • Feather Fall would have a greater area of affect - slowing everyone and everything within that area.
  • Cast into Time is more difficult to cast percisely and it has a half damage effect on creatures to either side of where it lands - how far to the right and left depends upon the thickness of the mist.

Manifestation

Similiar in appearance to fog, but with a pearleceant cast - usually in purple or pink, but it can vary depending upon the type of magic that spawned it. Necromancy spells leave a black residue. It has been used to track outcroppings of necromancers. Unfortunately, the mist will only appear if the necromancer has used several powerful spells or a large number of spells over an extended period of time.  Unlike fog magic mist usually covers a smaller but deeper area.
