Chief Priestess of the Night
Qualifications
To become a chief priestess, a woman must first be a priestess of Hepeth, Queen of the Night for at least five years. She must also have basic medical knowledge and some skill at either alchemy or spell casting - specifically healing spells.
Appointment
Upon the death of a chief priestess, all of the Head Priestesses gather to elect their new leader. Typically the previous chief priestess will have begun training someone to replace them. Thus the nomination is only a matter of form.
Duties
The Chief Priestess is responsible for overseeing all of Hepeth's priestesses. However, they usually only interact with the head priestesses, who are responsible for the day-to-day activities of their temple's priestesses.
Accoutrements & Equipment
She wears a tippet - similiar to the priestess tippet, dark blue with an embriodered owl over a gibbious moon, but it includess a ranking symbol of a new moon with three chevrons. For ceremonies the priestess will carry a gold censer encircled with engravings of the moon cycle.
History
The first to hold the title was Luna Truthsworn. She was dedicated to Hepeth, Queen of the Night at birth. She joined the Synagogue Of Night at age thirteen and by the time she was twenty-three she was in charge of all the priestesses at the syngogue. Twelve years later during the dispute with Krasi, Festival King's followers, she organized all the priestesses and became the first Chief Priestess.
Another important chief priestess was Dalla Thorkelldottir. She introduced the medical component to the office because she chief priestess during the Dwarf - Human War and lead her priestesses to aid the injured during the war.
