Auburn Orr
Auburn Orr, a Tiefling Wizard, has faced a lifetime of persecution and alienation due to his distinct appearance, marked by a large tail and prominent horns. Constantly targeted by hatred and xenophobia, he conceals his tail under a cloak, yearning to be accepted as a normal member of society. In the past, Auburn lived as a Charlatan, deceiving and swindling others, until he crossed paths with an undeserving victim. Haunted by guilt, he now seeks redemption for his past misdeeds.
To atone for his sins, Auburn aspires to become an ordinary human, shedding his Tiefling features. For this purpose, he has chosen to study the school of Transmutation as a budding Wizard. His ultimate goal is to master the spell Shapechange, striving to achieve a near-permanent transformation. Traveling alongside a group of adventurers, he finds solace in their acceptance, and together, they embark on a journey of adventure.
Throughout their travels, Auburn is in constant pursuit of knowledge related to the Transmutation school and its followers. He seeks individuals who can aid him in mastering the secrets of Transmutation, allowing him to become the finest practitioner and, ultimately, help himself. His aim is not to immediately attain the Shapechange spell, but rather, to improve gradually, honing his skills along the way. Spells like Polymorph and Raise Dead (through Transmuter's Stone) are of interest to him as stepping stones toward mastering Transmutation.
Auburn is aware that his true journey into his background may begin around Level 6, when he hopes to acquire a Transmuter's Stone, bringing him closer to the status of Master Transmuter. Until then, he focuses on becoming a more proficient Wizard, seeking mentors and instructors in Transmutation to aid him on his path to redemption and transformation."
Potential Goal in the Living Library:
Show spoiler
In Auburn's quest for redemption and mastery of Transmutation magic, the living library presents a unique opportunity for him to discover a hidden path towards his ultimate goal. As the sentient entity yearning for knowledge and experiences beyond its initial creation, the living library becomes intrigued by Auburn's desire to transform into a human and seeks to aid him on his quest.
Deep within the living library's vast repository of arcane wisdom, Auburn uncovers a forgotten tome titled "Metamorphosis and Redemption: Unveiling the Secrets of Transcendence." This ancient and enigmatic text holds the key to a long-forgotten ritual known as the "Transcendence Rite," believed to be capable of granting mortals a profound transformation, transcending their inherent nature.
The ritual, obscured by time and buried among the library's countless volumes, requires profound understanding and perfect alignment with the core principles of Transmutation magic. As Auburn studies the tome and delves deeper into its hidden meanings, he begins to comprehend the spiritual and metaphysical essence of his quest for redemption.
Through a series of trials, challenges, and introspection, Auburn must prove himself as a worthy candidate for the Transcendence Rite. He will face moral dilemmas, grapple with the consequences of his past actions, and confront his inner demons. Only by embracing his true nature, both as a Tiefling and as a person seeking redemption, can he unlock the ritual's power and bring about the transformation he seeks.
As Auburn progresses on this quest within the living library, he not only advances as a powerful Wizard but also experiences personal growth and spiritual enlightenment. The living library, acting as both mentor and guide, encourages him to confront the past, understand the true meaning of redemption, and find his place in the world, regardless of his physical form.
Whether Auburn ultimately achieves his goal of becoming human through the Transcendence Rite remains uncertain, but the journey within the living library becomes a pivotal moment in his life, shaping him into a more compassionate, wise, and self-aware individual. The library's wisdom and the insights he gains along the way will influence not only his magical prowess but also his understanding of the world and his place in it.
