Glidewalker's Manual

Preface: It is to be known that a glidewalker's profession is one of the riskiest known trades. They must be intelligent, they must be courageous, they must be swift, and above all, they must dance the fine line between the art of walking the skies and the less noble, and much more lethal art of avian imitation. The following manual, written by pre-eminent glidewalker Ghordus Murrim, that is, myself, is a guide to attempt to reduce the fatality rates among less proficient glidewalkers. I will provide this information in a series of rules that all glidewalkers are wise to follow, at least in spirit if not letter.   Rule 1: You are not a Courier. A glidewalker's profession is not to simply deliver messages and packages. A glidewalker connects two locations, two people, if you are more individually inclined, to each other across distances uncrossable without significant arcane prowess. To be a glidewalker is not just to be a courier. It is a connection of ideas, of ideals. You are the respected symbol of the frontier. Where a glidewalker cannot go... no one can. A glidewalker is the first notice, the herald of information. A glidewalker is not a simple courier.   Rule 2: Timing is of the essence. Experienced glidewalkers learn quickly that timing forms the very core of glidewalking. Not just in departure and arrival time, but also in the very art of glidewalking itself. For smooth traversal, you must master the fine clock of winds and gusts. To walk the sky, you must know exactly when to put your feet down and when to glide, lest you be taken for an involuntary ride by a strong wind.
