Flag of the Maw

The Flag of the Maw is a banner or flag intended for intimidation purposes by sacrilegiously invoking the imagery of the primordial god Turoch   It essentially "signifies, surrender or die horribly". A loose equivalent to a Jolly Roger pirate flag from Earth in the so-called "Golden Age of Piracy".

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Despite the spiritual implications, the Flag of the Maw has no tangible power, it's power is purely psychological.

History

Turoch is a cosmic horror beyond the vision and understanding of mortals, but Scarterran artists and theologians symbolically depict him as a toothy maw because his hunger is insatiable and terrifying, even in death.   During the Second Unmaking, when Void demons literally birthed out of Turoch's essence were trying to wipe out all mortalkind, the Void demons and their allies never bothered with banners or flags.   The Flag of the Maw appeared in the Red Era long after the Second Unmaking and after the so-called "Little Unmaking" was fading from memory.
At that point, Void demons seemed like a fanciful ancient legend and not like a true threat, so many thuggish individuals didn't think twice about invoking Turoch imagery as a psychological weapon.   The Flag of the Maw is mainly used by bandits or pirates, but the flag is sometimes used by soldiers at war. When soldiers unveil the flag when they are essentially saying, "'The Rules of War' are not even suggestions now."

Significance

"Effectively raising this flag states 'we will do anything to do win, and nothing is beneath us. Flee or surrender!'   Sometimes this will scare targets into surrendering, but I wouldn't recommend it. Using the symbol of Turoch might convinced some weaker enemies to surrender, but it will embolden stronger enemies to fight back harder. If you use this flag, you will eventually get Nonagon sponsored adventurers on your tail.   I recommend using Maylar symbols instead. This will still scare the weak, but it won't provoke as big of a retaliation."   -Zomath, half-orc brigand

There is no standard formula or image used for this, any depiction of a toothy mouth can qualify as the sign of the Turoch. Red and black are the most common colors though.
