The Great War

A conflict between Gorax the Destroyer, and the Hero of Sylvenas. The Elven city of Sylvenas was the last bastion against the infamous overlord, Gorax the Destroyer.   Gorax had half of the world under his control already, and his march was relentless. Yet Sylvenas held firm. Gorax gave them a choice: surrender, or be crushed. The aristocrat known as Lord Aerendyl became famous for being the first to refuse surrender. Despite the threats and displays of power from the overlord, Aerendyl stayed firm on this.   Gorax the Destroyer laid siege to the city for a week before he finally got his opportunity. Their last hope was for the prophesized hero to finally show herself... And she did. The name of this heroic Half-Elf is lost to time, but her deeds were legendary. When Gorax laid siege to the city, all seemed lost. The walls were about to crumble, soldiers were dying left and right, only to be raised as members of Gorax's forces. Civilians were saying their final prayers as the chaos closed in. The woman who would later be the Hero of Sylvenas was amongst them: though she was a brave fighter, she believed that even she couldn't hold out against Gorax's forces.   It was at this moment that a latent power in her awakened. Some say it was the gods favor in practice. Some say it's an ancient arcane magic that still exists, but isn't accessible anymore. Whatever it was, it was spectacular. A gigantic pillar of pale blue magic light surrounded the Hero, imbuing her with a power which is still unknown to the mortal races to this day. Just as Gorax's forces broke through the gates, she drew her sword. Her striking the most powerful amongst the dark army back inspired the remaining soldiers in the city to fight by her side. It's said that the she carved a route through Gorax armies straight to their leader. Once she faced him, a battle between good and evil ensued that has left magical residue to this day. They clashed for days on end, until the Hero of Sylvenas finally landed the deathblow. With his last breath, Gorax the Destroyer cursed Sylvenas and the surrounding land: "With Azdar as my witness... I will return. Until I do, my soul will leave this land uninhabitable for your ilk. May you rot here!" The last sentence is said to have echoed throughout the world.   As Gorax exhaled his final breath, his body began to glow with a cursed, red light. As his corpse disintegrated, a similar magical column surrounded him. The Hero of Sylvenas did her best to dispel it, but failed. The magical energy violently exploded in a range of several kilometers, killing her and most of the inhabitants of Sylvenas. To this day, the city remains a necropolis, its inhabitants aimlessly wandering the ruins in search of a peace they'll never have. Nowadays, whispers whirl amongst conspiracy theorists, and some claim that Lord Aerendyl still walks the crumbling halls of the palace...

The Conflict

Aftermath

Sylvenas is now a Necropolis that most sane people won't go near: it's crawling with powerful Undead, some even unknown to Necromancers to this day. They fight an eternal war: civilians running around in non-existent chaos, soldiers frantically swiping their swords at non-existent foes, town guards evacuating people to non-existent locations. However, if someone's soul moved on, their body has turned into a mindless Undead, aimlessly wandering the crumbling city and viciously attacking any of the living brave enough to enter the remains of Sylvenas.
