Exorcist

Often a source of income for Clerics and Necromancers, priests mostly take on this work in civilian life. Amongst their tasks are communing with the spirits of the dead (restless or otherwise), and assuring that they can move on to the afterlife should it be neccesary. Seeing how the spirits are usually dangerous, it's not uncommon for civilian priests to hire an adventurer as a bodyguard.   In the case of adventurers, exorcists usually take on most cases pertaining to Undead in addition to this. From more evil-aligned Necromancers causing mayhem with their hordes to a peasant spotting some wild, mindless zombies in some nearby woods, a Cleric or good to neutral-aligned Necromancer will often be asked for help. In cases of possession by either a spirit or demon, people often turn to an adventurer instead of a civilian priest, as the latter will often refuse the case for their own safety.

Operations

Tools

There are a few common items in an exorcist's toolkit:
  • Holy water blessed in the name of either a good-aligned deity, or one that specifically dislikes Undead.
  • Wooden stakes (made out of a tree that has either grown near a temple of either a good-aligned deity, or one that specifically dislikes Undead)
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Sage
  • A holy book of their faith
Clerics are also known to add the following items to the toolkit:
  • An enchanted symbol of their deity, able to repel most lesser Undead (amulets, small idols, etc.)
  • A weapon dipped in holy water blessed by their deity
  • A tome of holy enchantments of their faith (instead of the regular kit's holy book)
  • A crossbow
  • Silver bolts
While Necromancers carry the following in addition to it:
  • A magic focus to help concentrate their abilities better (crystal balls, staffs, enchanted amulets, etc.)
  • An enchanted tome containing the spells they can cast (instead of the regular kit's holy book)
  • A weapon blessed by a priest (or Cleric) of a faith that either specifically allows or tolerates the existence of Undead
  • A crossbow
  • Silver Bolts
Tomes are often worn on a loop on the exorcist's belt next to the one holding their weapon, should they carry one. The crossbow is worn on their back, next to the bolts.
