Koldubar

Koldubar is the best known dwarven hold, situated in the northeast of Gorotura in a mountain under a cloud forest full of bamboo. The dwarves have taken heavy advantage of both the bamboo and the creatures that eat it, including a species of elephant. Small for an elephant but still large, dwarves have taken to use these creatures as beasts of burden and mounts. What makes them the most well known fortress though is their proximity to Valorport. Koldubar has strong trade with Valorport, exporting dwarven crafts, dwarven riches and even dwarven adventurers. Many of the dwarves who chose to join the Champions of Kayari come from Koldubar.

Structure

Koldubar is ruled by a king, who is also the high priest of Khazarag for the city. Koldubar is a theocracy, and the king uses his connection to Khazarag to pray for guidance on how to best lead his people. He also manages big picture decisions of the city, like proposing new laws to the Lawkeepers or adjudicating issues between the different government departments.

Below the king is the people who run the day to day of the city. The Goldeyes in charge of the city's treasury and trade, The Ironshields who manage both the military and law enforcement of Koldubar, The Peakwardens that manage the farms and other resources on the slopes of their mountain and more. Each branch is led by a single dwarf who reports to the king, and are expected to work together to keep Koldubar healthy. Any disputes between these branches are brought before the king who is the final authority in the city.

Culture

Koldubar has what many would consider a generic dwarven culture. They worship Khazarag, they have a giant forge at the city's heart, they are master mason and smiths, and they are known for mining vast distances. This is partly because when many think of dwarven culture, Koldubar is one of the first cities they think of. While they do share several elements with other dwarven cities, Koldubar's proximity to the surface world has given it its own culture.

Koldubar architecture often includes decorative bamboo. It maintains a structural base of stone, usually carved from the walls, but the dwarves enjoy adding bamboo as a decorative flourish. It has practical uses as well, like bracing the stone. The cloud forest around their peak is rife with the stuff, so the dwarves have learned to use it in many ways. They build with it, they use it to keep their great forge burning, they turn it into fabric, and more. It also feeds one of their most popular beasts: pygmy elephants. Herds of these small elephants wander the mountain, feeding on the bamboo and other plants. The dwarves domesticated these creatures to use as beasts of burden and mounts. Symbols of elephants have also found their way into the decoration of Koldubar and its denizens.
