Indrosal

Indrosal's life was fairly normal for a young null dragon, though he had a natural curiosity. He always yearned to infuse himself with magic, to become a stronger dragon. Yet no matter how hard he tried, his body refused to evolve. He burned himself nearly to death but didn't become a Fire Dragon, almost electrocuted himself but didn't become a Storm Dragon, froze himself with cold magic but didn't become an Ice Dragon, anything. The only one he didn't try was becoming a Demon Dragon, because an eternity of rage and madness in the void felt like a downgrade. Frustrated by his repeated failures, he turned to study, trying to learn more about dragon biology. Surely there was something wrong with him, some condition or curse that kept him a Null Dragon. His frustration doubled when he found almost nothing on draconic biology. Not many humanoid scholars were willing to get close enough to dragons to study them, and of those brave few several were more interested in how to slay dragons than how they work. To add to the issue: dragons do very little writing, so there were few to no texts written by dragons about their kind. This led to the few texts on dragons that existed being either "How to Hunt Dragons" or surface level ecology. Driven by a large amount of spite, Indrosal set out to fix this gap in knowledge. He began a quest for understanding that led him to interview any dragon who would put up with him, dissect corpses of dragons and drakes, and fill tomes upon tomes with notes: some highly detailed recountings with expert prose, others hasty scribbles that he needed to get down while he could.

His research manifested in his magnum opus: Draconis Ecologica: The Encyclopedic Codex of Dragons. This definitive work on draconic biology features every known species of dragon, laid out with bone and muscle diagrams, size comparisons, behavioral quirks and a write up of how that dragon approaches draconic culture. Often shortened to the Draconic Codex, this masterwork was a hit with scholars across Savinaru.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Indrosal is driven by a combination of curiosity and spite. He has an innate and passionate curiosity, which even extends to his hoard. Among his favorite things to hoard are mechanisms, which he adores taking apart and putting back together. He wanted to know everything he could about anything he could. He often used the less interesting parts of his hoard, like generic gold coins or simple magic items, to hire bards or other knowledgeable types to teach him anything they knew. However, his draconic nature limited his access to scholarly works. Most libraries are both afraid to let a dragon inside, and the ones that aren't are still designed for humanoids instead of dragons. This culminated in his failure to ascend and subsequent failure to find any works on dragons, filling him with a healthy dose of spite at those stupid humanoids and their stupid books that were too small for his stupid claws.

Social

Contacts & Relations

During his research, Indrosal ran into Nulbita Brightflame on one of her expeditions. The two bonded over their shared desire to know more, and even became friends after more encounters. So when Indrosal finished his great work, he turned to Brightflame Publishing to present his work to the masses. He has joined Nulbita's close circle of friends, and can count on her when he needs her.

Indrosal has also performed the ritual to hatch a clutch of Dragonfolk . He uses them mostly as extra hands, as they are able to interact with humanoid sized books and other works in a way that he cannot with his draconic claws. While they are mostly engaged in academic efforts, they are still loyal to the end and will defend Indrosal to their dying breath if he is ever attacked.

Wealth & Financial state

Indrosal's hoard is one of curiosities. He is less interested in gold than in the strange and interesting. Many of his possessions are still very valuable, including many magical items, but he is more interested in the strange than the valuable. However, during his research he had to use much of his wealth to pay for his work: paying dragons to answer his questions, bounties for drakes he could dissect, not to mention the staggering amount of paper and ink his research notes consumed. He has earned a good chunk of that money back from book sales, and has been looking for replacements for the precious items lost to his research funds.
