Fangore Bull
Fangore Bulls are slow, intimidating endurance predators, who chase their prey until it tires and gives up. They resemble carnivorous bulls, with four muscular hooved legs and a pair of sharp horns pointing from their head like spears. They have formed a symbiotic relationship with Swiftsnap Raptors, who complement their hunting style. This combination has formed a devastating hunting style. The Fangore Bull approaches a herd of prey, and starts chasing it. If the prey runs, the raptors pick off a straggler or two. If they stand their ground against the raptors, the bull catches up and starts tearing the prey to bits.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Fangore Bulls are hooved quadrupeds with bovine heads, though these features have been shifted to better suit a predator. One of the most notable of these changes are the razor sharp teeth in their mouth. While these teeth are dangerous, Fangore Bulls more often rely on their horns to rip at and stab their prey than biting them.
Genetics and Reproduction
Fangore Bulls only have one child at a time, and the mother raises the child alone. The calf stays with the mother for between 2-3 years before they are old enough to survive on their own. If the mother has a pack of raptors with her, her calf and the raptor hatchlings will bond during this time, ensuring that both parties have a partner.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Fangore Bulls are persistence hunters, with great stamina allowing them to maintain their slow buy steady gait for days in order to tire out their prey. They often use fear tactics to force their prey to run, bellowing a terrifying roar to scatter herds of prey into running themselves ragged. If they can reach their prey before it tires, they will jab at it with their horns, causing injuries to wear their prey down further.
They have also evolved to be able to not eat for long periods, conserving energy on their often long hunts.
Behaviour
Fangore bulls are generally solitary, with mothers caring for their calf being the most notable exception. They are generally lumbering beasts, though they can maintain impressive speed while hunting, but they are still slower than most of their prey. They don't need to match their prey's speed however, just keep it running until they catch up.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Fangore Bulls have impressive tracking ability, used to keep track of their quarry during a long chase. Their sharp eyes can see their prey with eagle like precision, while their excellent sense of smell allows them to chase their prey even when out of sight. Some have even claimed that they have a magical sense of their target. One orc claimed that he got gored by a fangore bull, and no matter what he did the bull seemed to know where he was. As if the hit had placed a tracking spell on him. This magical effect has not been confirmed, but they don't seem to need it for most of their prey.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
The hunting style of swiftsnap raptors compliments those of fangore bulls, because it puts the prey in a catch 22. If they stand their ground against the raptors, the bull will catch up and tear into them. If they run from the bull, the raptors will pick them off like a pride of lions. Both species have realized this, and formed a cooperative relationship, where the bull is the big slow moving brute that draws the prey's attention, and the raptors are the stealthy ambushers taking advantage of the bull's intimidation.
