Edel (Ee-Dell)

The Southern lands of Edel are lowland fields of rich soil and small, dense forests. Due to this fertility, Edel is a thriving agricultural space, with farms of lush produce and abundant small game. Two rivers cut through Edel, splitting the region, until the previous century, into multiple warring baronies using the banks and forests as borders. A royal line has risen to place all regions under one banner, however this has caused its own issues. Edel’s rich environment has resulted in farming being a core economic stone for the kingdom, with most farmers tending one type of crop within their small plot of land. Orchards, vineyards, and crop fields are commonplace, and have resulted in a booming population. This is supported by game which is quite common including rabbit, fox, birds, fish, and even giant rats and boar within the forests.   Edel’s knights, known as The Ritter are well known and feared, acting as both military leaders and land holders in Edel culture. The Ritter were supported by The Soldat who were a knight's personal unit of specialist professional soldiers, and The Kampfer who were enlisted from the serfs and peasantry.   Religion, and in particular cycles, have always been a big part of Southern land culture, and is seen expressed in their architecture and settlement design. Any settlement, of any size, houses a holy place to at least one of The Eight; the most important of these buildings being constructed at the summit of the nearest hill, while the rest are spread through the neighbourhoods. All other buildings are normally more modest than the nearest holy structure with the exception of military buildings. This demonstrates the neighbourhood’s (but usually the local noble’s) deference to The Eight. Edel’s monarchy rose to power using The Church of the Eight to certify their right rule which has cemented faith's power within the kingdom.
