Once the gods were as one. One being, one will to create. Eventually they saw the need to govern the world they had created, and so they split themselves. This process of dividing and subdividing went on for many millennia, until the point where the original Will was so diffused that some entities had lost the ability to govern or create anything of much consequence. And so, the term "god" will only be applied to beings of notable "elder-ness", while "divinity" -despite it's holy connotation- will refer to all entities descended from the original Will, be they angelic or demonic or anything in between.
