Tolbana Yayad
General introduction
Rodasaikus has long been only a small city state on the margins of Messellat Mdûlûn influence. After Sendar, a mighty city state to the North has suffered several major defeats by the hands of the Tarrabaenians, Rodasaikus is on the rise, thanks to the restructuring of the old system of government by Tolbana Yayad. Tolbana Yayad was head of a leading aristocratic family and likewise priest of the main moon temple of Rodasaikus. When Rodasaikus was most affected by the failing alliance with Sendar, Tolbana is said to have had a vision while performing an evening sacrifice to the moons. As moon priests enjoy the highest respect among the people of Rodasaikus and he was also a leading secular figure of the city, he spoke his mind on his vision and had its content accepted, almost without opposition.
Family background and personal life
Tolbana Yayad was head of the Ishiyak clan and thus a leading figure in Rodasaikus' society. His marriage with Sohime Junamu was arranged by his parents long before he could even speak. With her he had three children, all of which hold high military ranks. He became a moon priest after his political career, as is normal for Messellat Mdûlûn in general, as a religious carreer after a secular one is a normal carreer progression in their upper classes.
Public life and accomplishments
Career
As part of the oligarchic council, Tolbana Yayad influenced the political decisionmaking of Rodasaikus for much of his active life. This encompassed positive, but also negative decisions, like those related to the alliance with Sendar. After the failure of Rodasaikus' cooperation with Sendar in Tarrabaenia, he withdrew from politics. His greatest feat is, what he set in motion after his political career. As he brought forth the vision he had in the moon temple, it sparked discussions about Rodasaikus' remaining in an alliance with Sendar and about how the city could stand strong, even with the threat of Sendars retaliation.
As a result, the oligarchic rule of the city was replaced by a dual kingship model, concentrating power in only two individuals at a time, who were recruited from the families once present in the council. This made decisionmaking in Rodasaikus fast and efficient and freed the former members of the council from political work and scheming in the background. Instead, the perceived problem of Sendar retaliating because of Rodasaikus dropping out of the alliance with them ushered the aristocrats to engage more in military training and the studies of tactics. In a short timespan Rodasaikus was not only effective in solving inner political matters, but also had a highly educated class of tacticians and trainers for the soldiers recruited from the lower classes.
Soon hitherto neutral states turned to Rodasaikus, when Sendar became a threat and members of the former alliance under Sendar leadership broke away from them and became also neutral or asked Rodasaikus for a new alliance. Tolbana Yayad, with the help of the moon deities, thus changed the trajectory for Rodasaikus, making it a political and military powerhouse among Messellat Mdûlûn states east of the Grey Sea.
