Cóventó Astudétiú

General introduction

The Cóventó Astudétiú is an intellectual movement in Tarrabaenia, that formed after the more tumultuous phases of the struggle against the Messellat Mdûlûn turned into more of a cold war. With the need of military campaigning and the constant threats vaning, the Tarrabaenian upper class tended to arts and literature, but also to creating a field of humanities they called Nótra Coltá. This field of humanities soon became a staple of Tarrabaenian indulgement in cultural studies and formed some kind of opposition to the archaeologists, called 'Perscrutárés', who mainly engage with the foundations of Tarrabaenian culture in Tarrabaenia, which are mainly of Duiniken origin.

Known members and history

After around 3100 of the Era of the Earth, the hot phase of the wars between Tarrabaenians and Duiniken died down. The Cóventó Astudétiú, while not being officially introduced and established by an individual or comittee somewhat came into existence shortly thereafter, when Cadanus Cabinius Listus wrote his public letters to his friend Nabucus Rabannus Cerca, the well known author of treatises on ethics like 'In Óscitendó' or 'Capía apíce rásió é spótáté'. In these letters he encouraged Nabucus to keep his direction in writing, focussing on what he calls 'habitú Tarrabaniúm', which translates into 'the habits/ethics/morals of the Tarrabaenians'. This term was never employed by Nabucus himself, but what Cadanus aimed at was quite clear from the context. While the responses of Nabucus are no longer extant, during the following decennials more and more writing showd up, either referring to Nabucus as a point of orientation in regards to 'tarrabaenian-ness' or using the term habitú Tarrabaeniúm in relation to habits of codes of conduct characteristic of Tarrabaenian culture. About a hundred years later, the term was prominently examined and repurposed as a term encompassing all facets of uniquely or claimed to be uniquely Tarrabaenian culture by Tarpinius Lucúvius Colúnáris, a scholar from Kammargo, whose works got wide distribution through the then flourishing trade of metals from that province to the rest of the Confederation of Tarrabaenia.

In all parts of the country people started turning their attention to their everyday culture and writing not in the glorious past, that was mainly mythical or strongly related to or influenced by the Duiniken, but rather tried to trace back the phenomena of contemporary Tarrabaenian culture back though time or thouroughly analysing and categorizing these phenomena. While no academy, university, school or similar institution was ever established which was dedicated to these kind of studies, the scholars engaging with habitú Tarranaeniúm form local circles for meetings and discussions and some exchanges of letters between scholars of Nótra Coltá exist in their entirety.

Structure and responsibilities

While the undisputed centre of Tarrabaenian culture is Savína, a notable feature of Nótra Coltá is its non-concentratedness on the capital or another central point. In fact the marginal provinces like Trásacuina and Tebrina, where Tarrabanian culture is contrasted by neighbouring cultures.

With this framework, there is no 'head of the discipline' and no common vision or direction for the field of Nótra Coltá. Nonetheless scholars dweling in this field are actively engagion with one another. Up til the present, about two dozen very avid writers are deeply involved into the topic of 'tarrabaenian-ness' and there appears to be no cease in interest in the topic. As the field has developed not only a broadness in variety due to its inclusion of really all aspects of culture, but also a considerable depth due to its long lasting history and the amount of well educated and hard-working scholars involved in the topic, albeit lacking a connecting strucure, the movement named itself Cóventó Astudétiú, to have a common name for all those engaging in these kinds of studies.

As there is no board deciding on whether one is 'enough of a scholar of Nótra Coltá', the deciding factor of being a part of the Cóventó Astudétiú is the ability to publish and distribute your research on whatever it is you are contributing to the field. As scholarship and research are mostly private endeavours in Tarrabaenia, the Cóventó Astudétiú is in that regard well comparable to other, institutionalized fields of research.
