Cínctó Trásacuiné
Short overview
During the reign of the first Tarrabaenian emperor Baius Válés Aemiliánus, Tarrabaenian forces pushed north over the Sévo Mountains, as the emperor wanted to gain military success to strengthen his position of power. At that time, the North was only little known, as north of the mountains was only a thin stretch of open and accessible land before the Skaura Hrís began. Between mountains and forest were a few minor polities, with which existed no political and few trade contacts.
The conquest of the area resulted in the establishment of the short-lived province Trásacuina, which was abandoned again after the Tarrabaenian Empire was retransformed into a republic.
Course of events
After the most publicly respected rivals of Baius Válés Aemiliánus were removed through exiling, mysterious and untimely deaths or putting them under house arrest, Baius' first goal was to appease the public as well as those critics, who were more secretive about their resentments against him. With the army still shaken by the events and either strong opponents like the Messellat Mdûlûn in reach of areas that were either worthless or difficult to reach or traverse like the Central Erana Mountain Range or the Moiyeli Swamplands, going north was the only option left for an easy target and success.
The relative military weakness of the North was known to Baius due to his good connections to rich traders, especially Stábius Sidoneius Partis, who travelled north especially for wood trade. Historiography of that time documents three major polities in the North: Mabrogia, Istivonis and Trurica. It is often described, that these people spoke a language remote, but not totally unintelligable from the Tarrabaenian Language.
An army as small as 1300 Men with a cavalry division of 250 was sent through the Saltú Rávú, a mountain pass rather to the Northeast of the Tarrabaenian mainland. The rest of the army had to stay ready in case the Messellat Mdûlûn were to make an advance from the South, triggered by the changed political position of that time. With only small losses the small army marched west mercilessly slaughtering the leading figures of the people there as well as any military opposition. The campaign took only 4 months o complete. As the army swept to the West, people ordered by Baius crossed the Sévo Mauntains through the same mountain pass, establishing an administrative structure to connect the land to the Tarrabaenian heartland.
Aftermath
The Skaura Orohlen forced the army back eventually as they felt threatened by the presence of the army. This encounter cost most lifes during the campaign. In the end, the Tarrabaenians negotiated a withdrawal of the army back south as well as, while keeping the now province Trásacuina, estalishing a demilitarised zone north of the Sévo Mountains.
After the Tarrabaenian Empire, the province Trásacuina was abandoned as it brought no profit to the mainland and was difficult to govern.
