Dog
Dog is easily the most beloved pet on Salan, and the most useful too, save perhaps the goat.
Breeds
All known peoples of the world keep dogs, and a few distinct breed of dog have existed since the ancient times. Most breeds have been bred for specific purposes, and a prospecting dog owner should carefully choose a right breed for the purpose.
Zeribian dogs are small and like swimming, making them ideal companions to travel on ships.
Mountain dogs are large and have thick hair that can handle the freezing temperatures. They make good herding dogs, and are big enough to scare away a wolf or a lion.
Good hunting dogs are skinny but fast runners. It is said that the fastest dogs are bred by the Caač people, but pure Caač dogs are rare and hard to access.
Dogs and spirits
Many myths tell of the mystical skills of the dogs and wolves. It is said that the house dog's job is just as much to keep away the evil spirits, as it is to scare away burglars. Especially howling dogs are thought to be communicating with the spirits. The Book of the Demons of the Tašals tells of a bodyless spirit of the howl, that was left behind when the god Rašar hunted a great wolf. The spirit continues to linger in the mountains, howling terrifyingly in its loneliness. But it is said that it can also talk like a human, and repeat the calls of the lost to lead travellers astray.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
It always astounds me when people are able to so creatively write about things that are more or less just normal in our world. The howling spirit reminds me for some reason of the stories in some cultures about animals that talk on Christmas Eve. I love your pictures too!
That's a cool idea for the future actually! Maybe there is a special time in my world too when the animals can talk.
I love it XD
