Lost Sea

How the Lost Sea came to be drained is unclear, but the corpse of this inland sea is perhaps more spectacular than the water ever was. Once a massive, kilometers deep saltwater lake, the Lost Sea is now a spectacular open-air abyss, the deepest point on land by far. Inhabited for thousands of years, there remain villages and towns throughout the Lost Sea, alongside the salt mines, nature reserves, and resorts that have also been established.

The Lost Sea’s extreme elevation leads to a number of climatic anomalies: higher air pressure, lower UV radiation, and air richer in oxygen among them. Despite Floria's  generally temperate climate, the Lost Sea abyss is arid and generally devoid of vegetation, with virtually no moisture or allergens in the air. All of these factors have led to a great number of putative health benefits associated with the Lost Sea’s environment, particularly for those with skin or respiratory maladies. In the resorts, the mineral-rich soil is commonly mixed into mud baths that are said to be good for the joints and skin. Great numbers of elderly or otherwise sickly nobles flock to the Lost Sea regularly for health reasons, and some even build estates in the abyss, ruling their fiefs remotely from its depths.
