Lonely Sage
A rare example of a “lonely” mountain - well over 300 kilometers from the nearest mountain range - the Lonely Sage is an ancient, extinct stratovolcano known for its pleasing symmetry, prominent height, and pristine snowcap for much of the year. Despite its size, the Lonely Sage is believed to have formed extremely quickly in geological terms, with lava bursting from the open plains of northern Iphigea and accumulating into a cone with unusual speed. Geologists estimate that a human being could have, as a child, seen the empty field where the Sage would grow and see it reach a third of its current height before their death.
In the millions of years since its initial formation, the Sage has gone extinct, but the volcanic soil it once deposited in its eruptions and that it continues to deposit as it erodes have made the surrounding fields extraordinarily fertile. Consequently, northern Iphigea is home to some of the richest soil on the planet. By extension, the Duchy of Kapra is widely considered the breadbasket of all of Vesarca .
Resort towns dot the area around the Lonely Sage in places ideal to admire the majesty of the mountain. Shrines of the ancient Kapari (long since repurposed to the worship of the Menhir of Fomalhaut ) also dot the slopes, and long processions of white-cloaked pilgrims are a common sight, snaking their way up the mountainside.
