Bed of Giants
Nestled among the fjords of southern Kosingia in the Duchy of Rokavut, the Bed of Giants is largest glacier on all of Vesarca. Exceptionally smooth along its top, the towering glacier was likened by its discoverers to an enormous bed, hence its name.
It has long been a rite of passage for Emini squires to traverse the nearly 300 mile length of the glacier on foot, braving freezing temperatures, treacherous crevasses, and lashing winds, culminating in their knighting on the ice cliffs by the frigid Cygnic Ocean. The fate of a squire who fails is up to their instructor, with some even being left for dead. Regardless of the precise outcome, failure is taken to indicate unworthiness for knighthood. Whether they are able to repeat the trial is also at the discretion of the instructor. The tradition has lately spread beyond the Emini people to knights across Kosingia.
The Bed of Giants is also a tourist attraction for nobles across Vesarca, which many Emini complain undermines the solemnity of their journey. It is difficult to attain the meditative focus the trial is meant to foster with pleasure-barges floating overhead and the sound of skimmers ringing through the valley. To their credit, most sightseers do abide by the Emini’s request to not interact with the aspirants.
