Avior Gladwin

The former viscount of Valen who rose up in revolt against his liege, Piautos Lerant, Duke of Noime, over a sudden and - in his opinion - excessive tax to compensate for a bad harvest. Avior is a career military man, previously a lieutenant-colonel in the Royal Legionary Army, and had given generously to the royal coffers to support his beloved army, leaving him unable to pay the new tax. After negotiations broke down with his liege, with whom he'd always had a strained relationship, he rose up in revolt. With his extensive military experience and years of investment in his personal forces, he was able to put the numerically-superior forces of the Duke on the back foot initially. As the Duke called up more of his banners, however, the revolt turned to a grueling stalemate, and Avior's castle came under a bloody siege. The 7th Lancer Wing was dispatched by the Menhir of Fomalhaut to bring the rebellion to an end as they saw fit. Eventually, they negotiated a peace where Avior would abdicate his position in favor of his son as punishment for his rebellion and Piautos would waive the tax. Avior was subsequently appointed as an instructor at the Royal Legionary Army Academy, after Lancer Julian Quinn called in a favor with the Lord-Commandant, where it was believed Avior's talents would better serve the kingdom.
