SHINJO ARAN
"There is nowhere that the Emperor's Justice can not reach."
OVERVIEW:
While the Shinjo Magistrate often operates in small groups to ensure protection over cities and towns, Shinjo Aran is the chief officer in the foreign affairs division of the Unicorn Magistrate. While he's held the position for over a decade, no one in the history of the Unicorn has had a better track record of hunting down criminals abroad. This hasn't gone unheard of by other clans, some of which even conscript his aide in hunting high profile criminals that must be caught. With inroads to every clan's Magistrates, including the elusive Dragon--Aran's strong sense of justice and ability to work across clan lines with humility and honor has resulted in the arrest of criminals as high ranking as regional Daimyo. He has been offered the position of Emerald Magistrate more than once, only to turn it down every time, insisting upon the importance of his position among the Unicorn. Only one person holds higher station in the Shinjo Magistrate--Moto Jei.
Devika Utaku has served in his company for three years and Aran seems to have no qualms about sending the infamous 'Unfeeling Utaku' to lay low enemies of the Empire. Lately, he's had more and more work for her hunting Shugenja and Mahotsukai alike, as she's proven capable against spellcasters who would turn even the Kami against their fellow Rokugani. Aran seems to value Devika's work even while others see her as brutal and often works with her to present missions that she feels she'd serve best undertaking.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
While Aran's focused nature can be off-putting to some, he has proven aloof and carefree when not on the job. A mane of dark hair tumbles out over his broad shoulders and his hands are pocked with scars that tell the tale of a hundred dangerous plots foiled. Hardly anything seems to unnerve Aran, who claims to have seen everything from an Oni to a Dragon in his short thirty years. Regardless of whether or not that is true, Aran speaks with an assuredness to his tone that often puts allies at ease and makes his suspects sweat.
