Welcome to the world of Runeterra where magic dominates the landscape and great champions shape the the world around them. All forms of cultures can be found in their own unique lenses to the world of Runeterra. From the viking-like tribes of the Frlejord, the Eastern mythology inspired Ionia or the technological marvel environments of Piltover and Zaun, all forms of greatness can be found. Whether from a lowly pirate hunter or the very gods of the universe, marks are constantly made. With a mixture of high fantasy, eldrich horror and steampunk themes, Runeterra is a world of deep history and untapped mysteries. A world where stories are constantly being created and carried beyond the lives of those that inspired them. A world where anyone can make their own story.
Runeterra hosts many peoples and creatures with many realms that are in constant conflict, where peace is often a far away concept. The stories told are focused upon the continents of Valoran, Shurima and the archipelago of Ionia. While the far away continent of Camavor has significant impact on the history and recent events of Runeterra, it has gone undiscovered and the knowledge of its existence has been lost to time. One day it may resurface but that remains a long lost dream.
Runeterra is a volatile world where magic seeps into the very foundations of its civilizations and natural phenomenon. Long ago, before there were planets in the universe, an unknown celestial being created Runeterra using the power of the World Runes. Artifacts of unknown origins, the World Runes form every aspect of physical life and their power alone is what shaped the world of Runeterra as it is. Over the centuries these World Runes have been sought after and fortunately they had been safeguarded by responsibile mortals. But that ended when mortal greed and ambitions clashed with untamed power. The safeguards had been destroyed and the World Runes scattered across Runeterra. Entire civilizations were eradicated from competing uses of World Runes, setting the foundations of the world as it is.
Now, with new civilizations rising and establishing themselves, the world hangs in the balance as the lost and hidden World Runes remain scattered, just waiting to be rediscovered and used again for better or worse. While many know nothing of their existence, myths and legends told among peoples, many know what they are capable of and the race to discover them is tenuous.
New heroes and villains are rising and falling everyday in Runeterra, a land with so much potential and plenty of opportunity for anyone to become legend.
