The wildlands of Iosterra, and ruins therein, are riddled with monsters. Some are relics from the Magister War, some are creatures brought from the past into the present, and others are the result of malign magics still at work. Broadly, monsters on Iosterra can be divided into several categories:
Beasts: These are aggressive natural animals, and animals brought forward from prehistory.
Constructs: Built for war, research, and other purposes, constructs run the gamut from intellegient members of society to unrelenting killing machines.
Corrupted: Warped by magic, these are people and animals who have been altered physically and driven mad with bloodlust.
Demon: Sage sare unsure of where these creatures come from, but their presence on Iosterra is never a positive one.
Dragon: The dragons of Iosterra are powerful creatures that are expressions of the biomes themselves. In recent years, more have begun to emerge, in frightening new forms to reflect the new and terrible biomes of Iosterra.
Elemental: Unsurprisingly, many creatures from the elemental planes find their way to Iosterra, or are summoned and released. Not all are hostile, but many can be dangerous just by their nature.
Undead: The terror of necromancy and the undead are known to Iosterra, and in an act of folly, they were weaponized in the Magister War. Some are intelligent, while others exist only to kill the living.
Monsters are, generally, creatures that show little or no interest in parlay or the norms of the civilized world. They are the rulers of the wildlands, and the reason why the peoples of Iosterra live in fortified settlements and keep watch both day and night.
