Lots of tectonic activity including quakes, active/dormant volcanos, hot springs, and geysers
Large land mass which is very sparsely populated and unexplored
Very few large settlements, typically primitive tribes of nomadic nature. Tribal violence is known to happen usually in settlements further away from the coast.
Lots of wildlife and monsters make travelling dangerous especially at night.
