King

The King of Lochenstein is a globally important figure. Lochenstein is one of the most powerfull nations on the planet Roy. As such the perosn who holds this title weilds political and military power at a global level. The decisions this person does or does not make have the potential to affect the billions of beings on the planet.   The title of king is hereditary, and the king serves for life. As the head of State the King has the ability to declare war, serves as the chief justice on the Supreme Court, and also makes and enforces laws. Many kings in Lochenstein's history have been noble men. Some were conquers, some were diplomats, and some were buisnessmen.

Qualifications

While there are no official or legal qualifications for the job of King, as the title is hereditary, it is commonly accepted that the heir to the King must be mentally capable, well educated, and have some prior govermental, or military service. While it is uncommon, the idea of primogeniture has not always been followed in Lochenstein. At least two elder sons were deemed unfit by the king and a council of governers to suceed their fathers.

Duties

Many Kings in Lochenstein's history have considered it their duty to ensure that future generations of Lochenstein can live in peace, security, and relative ease. The best kings in Lochensteinian history saw themselves as public servants and sought to ensure that the lowest serf led a good, if somewhat mundane, life. It is not uncommon for some kings to appoint their apparent heirs as vice-regents and have them serve in parliment as the Duke of Akthwaquies.

Responsibilities

The King of Lochenstein is responsible for maintaining the well being of the nation and safe gaurding it from all threats. As ruler the king must arbitrate in legal cases and help set national law. As a warrior they must protect the people and resources of the nation. The King is the face of Lochenstein thus making him the highest ranking diplomat and responsible for helping establish good trade deals and foreign relations with other nations. The king also serves as chief justice on the seven person Supreme Court and his vote counts twice.

Benefits

The obvious benefit of being the ruler of Lochenstein is that the person who holds this office weilds the most political power in the kingdom. They also do enjoy a substantial income from a percentage of tax incomes. The King also holds the title of Duke of Akthwaquies and holds the coastal trade port, and naturally beautifull city of Wompanoeg.

The Lochensteinian Crown
The crown of Lochenstein is a priceless artifact crafted by the legendary dwarven craftsman Khardal Keenbeard 2000 years ago. It was given to the King of Lochenstein, Rahyod Saxxbury, as part of an alliance that ultiumately brought the Frasnian Dwarf Kingdom into Lochenstein. Made of solid gold, the crown resembles a circlet of braided wheat and is encrusted with diamonds. Also inlaid in the crown are several rubbies and dark blue saphires. The crown does grant the wearer greater access to their mental facilties as well as better insight and an ability to influence others.
