The Pits of Hell

The pits of hell are not an overstatement; this gaping hole in the ground is up on the hills. It is not actually in hell, but rather a portal at the bottom of the pit that leads to Avernus. However, the surrounding area has been affected by it. The walls of the pit are covered with red creeping vines, and the stone looks like it's turned into obsidian. There is no way up or down the pit without wings or other means of flying. Above ground, there are tents and a camp where a cult protects the portal from those who would want to close it. They also make sacrifices to the pit when other people appear and disturb them.
