Phoenix Village
After about half an hour of fast walking, the village finally came into view. It was, different then what you had thought it would be. Instead of the small cluster of building you were expecting, a rather large group of houses, stores, and fields met your gaze. Most of the houses were small, but there were several two story buildings scattered around town. One of them had a sign that made it very clear that this was your objective.
As you walk closer to the village, you can see smaller garden plots through the thin fences that marked the boundaries of each houses' yard. Several chickens ran, squawking around your feet nearly setting you off balance again. A young girl watched you from several paces away. She had been chasing the chicken, but at the sight of you she had stopped. You smile and she returns it halfheartedly. Wondering why she was acting strange, you make it to the doorway leading to the inn. A large man was just exiting and you nearly bump into him as you make for the door.
"Watch it!" he growls. You stumble out of the way, but he catches your tunic and holds up a fist. Before he could light upon you though, someone stepped in. "Good morning, Feller. Have you been in any trouble recently?" The man released your tunic immediately before turning to face the speaker. "Trouble? Of course not. I was uh- I was just helping this young person find the inn, that's all." He quickly pulled you to your feet as he jabbered on. It was then that you caught your first glance of your rescuer. He was rather young for this huge man to be afraid of him, but at least you weren't beat up. The young man moved closer and lowered his voice so only you and Feller could hear what he said. "I know what you were going to do. Now apologize right now and move off." Feller nodded and made a hasty apology before hurrying out to the livestock pens. The young man grinned at you. "Might want to get inside quickly. I heard Innkeeper Quarly's wife is cooking up a good supper of roast lamb with biscuits. Her food goes fast around here." With a two fingered salute, the young man disappeared into the crowd of farmers returning from a hard day's work in the field. The delicious smell of roasted lamb greeted your nose and you push the door open and step into the low dining room. The big main room had a low ceiling and door frame so you had to duck as you entered the establishment. Innkeeper Quarly welcomed you with a wide smile as you met in him in the middle of the room. "Greeting stranger, what can I get fer you thes fine even'n?" "A man named Wurren sent me and told me you would give a week's board here. Am I correct?" "Aye young one, you are. Quarly's th name. I will have me daughter show ya to yer room up above, but first, I recommend that you have supper first. It's on the house!" You smile at the gracious invitation. "Thank you, but I'm not very hungry at the moment. I think I'll just go up to my room." He nodded and yelled across the room. "Aslanda? Get over here." The young girl who you had seen chasing chickens weaved her way through the people trying to get tables and ended by her father's side. "Show this guest to the small corner room."
