Session 52: The Unlife Vortex

General Summary

The Vandals gather themselves and head through the door on the far side of the room, beyond the two doors they find a Nessari, a horned devil from the Abyss. It muses how it was paid to guard the chamber and attacks the Vandals. Once they slay him, the Vandals check the room full of coffins. Here they find a large amount of treasure, most of it the colour of blood. Once they loot the chamber the Vandals return to the earlier stairs. However it leads to a dead end. Our Vandals then return to the machine keeping the Unlife Vortex open. Pulling the fourth lever and cause the machine to implode. The Vandals are quick to vacate the area when it does so. From here they climb through the tomb and find themselves in the Alhaster Boneyard. The city itself is quite damage already, and swirling clouds of thunder and lightning dance above the Vandals. The Vandals hear a church bell being rung so they fly over to investigate. Here they find a Badia cleric trying to rouse the populace to flee the city while they still can. The Vandals of Fate jump onto this while the two other churches attempt to get the citizens of Alhaster to join them at their respective churches. Baphmet's clergy says Prince Zeech himself is leading mass and only he can save the city. While Miva's clergy attempt to bring citizens to their church only if they are willing to make a donation. However it is not long and the crowd attracts a squad of Kyuss Knights. The undead foot soldiers of Kyuss's undead army. The Vandals have very little trouble in dealing with the creatures being legendary heroes at this point in their careers. With the hoard slain the Vandals escort the citizens down the Toilway, however they break off once they spot some strange green mist. The Vandals fly over and find a creature known as a Broodfiend, a fiend that has been infected with one of Kyuss's green worms. The battle proves to be simple, and upon killing the Broodfiend the green mist seems to dissipate. The Vandals find more Alhaster citizens hiding within crawlspaces and basements so they convince them to vacate the city and join the leaving mass of citizens.   From here our Vandals decide to visit the Temple of Baphmet where they are quickly chased away by a contingent of Blessed Angels. Who clearly have things under control as many undead lay destroyed at their feet while the nobility of Alhaster remains inside the temple. The Vandals decide before they attack the Spire, they will first refresh themselves and prepare themselves for the trial to come within their demiplane.   The next morning, now refreshed, morale high. They attack the tower to once and for all put an end to Kyuss and prevent the Age of Worms. Deciding to sweep the tower from bottom to top to wipe out any minions are Vandals encounter inside Lashonna and three Blessed Angels. Lashonna who declares herself the bride of Kyuss thanks our Vandals for destroying that dusty old Dragon and allowing her the time to transport Kyuss's monolith the Alhaster. She gives our Vandals a choice, submit to her or be destroyed. Our Vandals refuse and charge forward, only for Lashonna to take her Dragon form to fly forward and release a devastating cold breath into our Vandals. Our Vandals manage to slay her though, the battle was tough, but they manage it. Searching the area they find little of interest, and only that the very stone of the ziggurat is laced with powerful magics.   Climbing up the flights of stairs our Vandals find themselves at a level guarded by three more Broodfiends, they quickly kill them proving they are not difficult challenge to our well seasoned heroes. Now they must explore the next couple floors, and after that confront Kyuss himself and prevent the Age of Worms from descending upon Ronia.
