Session 36: The Harbinger
General Summary
The Vandals of Fate continue their exploration of the Spire of Long Shadows. As they find their way to the bottom of the pit they discover a room filled with swarms of Kyuss Worms. The Vandals are quick to exterminate the vermin and begin their exploration of the lowest level. Through one door they discover a fountain with clean water. However there seems to be a strange and magical pull towards the fountain and Fedi attempts to take a sip before the rest of the Vandals can stop her. Once they do stop her the Vandals are ambushed by three Wormcallers who start casting Flame Strikes onto the party. Our Vandals have very little troubles in defeating them however. As they continue to explore they find a pair of rooms with hundred corpses within. The first room appears to be still under the effects of a Gentle Repose spell, leaving the corpses as fresh as the day they died. The second room however appears to have had its magics long spent, leaving the room filled with the skeletal remains. The Vandals decide to burn the corpses to ensure that no undead can be risen.
Continuing the search the Vandals find a room filled with books and a Spirit Naga Sorcerer who quickly attacks our Vandals. Our Vandals have very little trouble in striking her down before they loot the room. They add the books to their library and also find a manual of bodily health. Heading to the next room the Vandals discover a large chamber with a sea of Kyuss Worms. Inside are also two wormcallers who quickly attack our Vandals. This also awakens a third creature. A worm the size of a Dragon - an Overworm. The Vandals have some difficulties in slaying the massive worm but in the end they prevail. Once they do so they are greeted by another vision. This time a bird's eye view of Kuluth-Mar, the streets are empty and instead the citizens are gathered in the mass of the central plaza surrounding the Spire of Long Shadows. An energy wells from the spire killing all those who are present. Their souls harvested and drawn back towards the Spire of Long Shadows to be absorbed by the black monolith. As the monolith absorbs the energy a shimmering image of a colossal humanoid figure, its body composed of a million writhing worms, takes form with arms raised. Yet in a moment rage as the figure is pulled into the stone monolith.
With this the Vandal's push on toward the next room where they are met by three Swords of Kyuss. The Vandals have very little trouble with them, however with their recourses spent they decide for now to return to their stronghold. Here they spend the next three hours resting and getting back to full strength. As they leave their pocket dimension and enter the next room they find a lone figure. A 6 armed almost insectoid humanoid who is quickly deemed to be a threat. A threat indeed as it casts time stop to immediately buff itself and to raise some Spawns of Kyuss. The Vandals are pushed to their limit by the powerful insectoid Lich. However they are successful in its defeat.
Once they defeat the Lich the Vandals experience one more vision. One that speaks of the prophecies. One that speaks that all but two have been fulfilled. As the vision fades each Vandal feels those very visions sear into their souls, ever becoming apart of them. Returning to the surface the Vandals quickly discover Kaluth-mar as been cleansed of the undead and the obsidian ring reduced to dust. Now they must return to Magepoint and catch up with Manzorian, maybe even hit the library in Magepoint to decipher the visions.
