Session 20: The Rebellion

The Ratcatchers returned to Remora, where she shared more of her world with them. For the first time, they learned that the Brafon Resistance was far larger than they had imagined, its chapters spread across many cities, with Lexica’s branch thriving most strongly thanks to its distance from Feyhollow’s reach. Remora’s revelations left the Ratcatchers intrigued but cautious, not yet ready to swear allegiance to her cause. With those weighty thoughts lingering, they retired to the Moon-Fork Inn for a well-earned rest.   When morning came, they set about their preparations. At the Happy Crow they purchased sturdy armor and weapons; at the Pretty Owl, Sakuya claimed a magical staff; and at the Crazy Mark, they gathered potions and consumables for the trials ahead. With gear secured, the party settled into several days of downtime. Ashir, Sakuya, and Lydia ascended into Tier 4, charting its streets and landmarks with careful eyes, while Mel spent his days drinking and listening for rumors. One in particular lingered—of a supply depot in Tier 3, cursed with strange lights and voices that haunted the night.   Their respite ended when Remora summoned them once more. She revealed her plan: the Ratcatchers were to strike that very same depot, clearing its guards and stealing the weapons within. For their work, she promised three bags of gold. The task proved dangerous—the depot was well-defended by knights and a host of pressed conscripts from the lower wards—but the Ratcatchers cut their way through, scattering the last of its defenders. Among the spoils they uncovered a ledger, its ink detailing a trail of corruption stretching across Tier 3.   As Remora’s men emptied the depot, Mel noticed each crate bore the crest of a noble house. The theft would not remain hidden for long. Returning to the quiet of her bookbinding shop, the Ratcatchers delivered the prize and received their promised payment—three heavy sacks of gold. Another blow had been struck for the rebellion, but in claiming it, the Ratcatchers stepped further into the dangerous games of Lexica’s ruling class.
