Session 17: The Siege of Blackwall Keep
General Summary
The Ratcatchers push forward to take on the Lizardfolk that are attacking Blackwall Keep directly. They battle their way to the hard oak door that had been broken down by the lizardfolk while the keep's guards meet the lizardfolk directly. The guards are quite successful is fighting off the lizardfolk.
The Ratcatchers themselves target the commander of the Lizardfolk who proves to be a competent warrior with his spear. However the teamwork of our Ratcatchers quickly overwhelms him and he to lays dead on the dirt. The guards quickly invite our Ratcatchers into the keep where they discuss that Marzena the keep's battlemage and 2 guards were ambushed, captured and hauled off into the Mistmarsh. The guards ask our Ratcatchers to go save them. Which our Ratcatchers agree to as they have business with Marzena. They inform the guards that Allustan has returned to Cragmire to get reinforcements. Our Ratcatchers patch themselves up and begin their long trek into the Mistmarsh.
The travel within the Mistmarsh is difficult and chalk full of peat bogs, swamps, and uneven terrain making it incredibly difficult to traverse. However Elora manages to easily track the Lizardfolk through the Mistmarsh. Late in the afternoon they find some stone statues of travellers, and dangerous animals. They leave no trace of magic, Axto believes an artist has gotten wayward. The Ratcatchers push on and find themselves with a setting sun. They find a nice dry spot hidden within a grove of mangrove trees where they spend the night with no harassment from the local fauna.
The next morning the Ratcatchers continue their travel and find themselves lead to a large Mangrove bush. Quick scouting reveals a set of branches that can be pushed out of the way to lead into a dank musty pathway. With the the Lizardfolk tracks leading into this Mangrove patch our Ratcatchers quickly make their way in with their guards down. This unfortunately comes and bites them in the ass when they are attacked by a pair of harpies who act as guardians to the lair. Their captivating song is quite alluring and it causes over half of the Ratcatchers to become fascinated by the song. Masari and Fedi are left to try and take out the harpies in hopes the rest of the party breaks free from the magical song. At the end of this battle with some heavy wounds the Ratcatchers patch themselves up and investigate the harpy nest. They find some coins, quartz, and a pair of boots of bounding which Kretzle manages to identify and wears. Now our Ratcatchers must continue to explore the Lizardfolk lair, find the two missing guards and the missing battle mage and not die in the process.
