Treant
Treants are trees that awaken and become protectors of the forest. They typically spend their Time in quiet meditation, living through countless seasons, but when the forest is threatened, they fiercely defend their territory.
A tree meant to become a treant starts as a normal tree, sometimes for centuries. When the conditions are just right—often in places full of Magic—it begins its slow transformation. During this time, druids and other treants will often safeguard the tree, recognizing its potential. As it gets closer to waking, the tree starts to take on humanoid features: its bark forming a face, its trunk dividing into legs, and its branches lowering like arms. Finally, it frees itself from the ground and joins the other treants in protecting the wild.
Treants born from the largest and oldest trees can grow to incredible sizes and gain magical powers over plants and animals, even summoning them to defend the forest. They remain rooted most of the time but stay aware of everything happening in their surroundings, sensing changes in the forest from miles away.
They’re generally patient with woodcutters and hunters who respect the land. But for those who destroy the forest—especially those who cut down trees on the verge of awakening—there’s no forgiveness. Carelessness with fire or poisoning the woods guarantees a treant’s wrath.
