The Anima Mundi

The Anima Mundi, or World Soul, is the primordial consciousness that predates all gods, kingdoms, and worlds. It is a vast dreaming presence woven through every planet, creature, and star in the Kagoma System. All souls are born from the Anima Mundi’s dreaming, and at death they return to it, maintaining the natural cycle of life and magic. Magic itself is the Anima Mundi’s “whisper,” carried across the cosmos through the Ley Lines. As long as the cycle of souls flowed freely, the Ley Lines remained vibrant and balanced. But when the Living Gate was destroyed and the Empire later learned to steal souls via the Shackles, the cycle was disrupted. Souls that should return to the Anima Mundi are now trapped, hoarded, or consumed by the Eternal Empire. This ongoing theft is weakening the World Soul, causing the Ley Lines to rot and reality itself to fray at the edges. The Anima Mundi is still alive—but wounded. Whether it can be restored depends on choices yet to come.
