Rantepao

A large town in Tana Toradja is Rantepao, which is also the traditional center of Toraja culture. Rantepao is located in the northern part of the country, near the border with Semang. Rantepao has a population of about 40,000 people and is a major destination for visitors.   Some of the features and attractions of Rantepao are:   The Rantepao Market, which is a lively and colorful place where the Toraja sell and buy their goods and products, such as textiles, pottery, spices, fruits, vegetables, and livestock. The market is also a social hub where the Toraja meet and interact with each other and with visitors.   The Londa Burial Site, which is one of the most famous and visited burial sites in Tana Toradja. The site consists of a natural cave that contains many coffins and bones of the deceased, as well as tau-tau effigies that guard the entrance. The site is also decorated with various carvings and ornaments that reflect the Toraja’s beliefs and traditions.   The Kete Kesu Village, which is a small Toraja village that showcases the traditional tongkonan houses and granaries. The village also has a ceremonial ground and a burial site that display the Toraja’s funeral rites and rituals.    The Bolokan Viewpoint, which is a scenic spot that offers a panoramic view of the Rantepao valley and the eastern mountains.
