Sparaletia
The sparaletia is a military formation deployed by the Araxepharoi that is deliberately designed in such a way that the members of the unit are best equipped to address a variety of common battlefield situations without having glaring weaknesses or exceptional strengths, either. Although it is untested in modern engagements, it is based on a well-documented and largely successful formation put to use during the Orochthan Wealth Wars.
Composition
Manpower
The sparaletia is comprised of at least thirty, and no more than a hundred individuals. Veterancy is not generally a consideration, and indeed, in most extant sparaletia, their members are a mixture of different levels of experience, but theoretically, the more experienced the constituent members of a sparaletia are, the more effective the formation will be.
Although the exact number of soldiers in a sparaletia varies, the proportion of different roles remains relatively similar across all potential sizes. This is because the sparaletia is both a solution for and a way to take advantage of the high degree of specialization that exists among the different Geon peoples. Each one is comprised of Tourmaline Geon, who form the bulk of the unit and who act as the infantry, Corundum Geon, who are adept at blocking and absorbing enemy attacks, Quartz Geon, who are renowned for their ability to hit opponents at long ranges, Agate Geon who are capable of inflicting damage on large areas with their magic, Amethyst Geon who excel at controlling the battlefield through landscape manipulation and the use of illusions, Aquamarine Geon who might not possess the destructive power of the Agate Geon, but have considerably more staying power and can cast simple spells at a breakneck clip, and Citrine Geon who can replenish the strength of the unit and maintain their focus through fatigue.
The wide gamut of different roles integrated into the sparaletia allows the formation to adapt to rapidly changing battlefield conditions. The magic users, despite being fewer than the martial members, are able to deal damage and provide cover as the unit creeps toward enemy positions. In the event of an ambush, the Corundum and Tourmaline Geon who comprise the majority of the unit can defend the more fragile members, buying time for the Agate Geon to mount a counterattack, while the Citrine Geon ensures that the defensive line remains healthy.
