The Basement

"This buzzing is unbearable, I swear if I can't go sleep in one of the higher rooms I'm rioting. From where does it come from anyway?   — The basement, apparently there is a power generator that is exclusive to this building, that's why we have heating and electricity.   — Alright it's useful, but can't we at least tone it down? Surely we don't need the full output now do we?   — I don't know, Richard was the one leading the team who went to explore downstairs, and he just said that we're not to approach this door, then locked it. And then he moved a cupboard to bar it.

If the higher floors of the Fluids & Particles Research Center is impervious to the assaults from the sea, the same cannot be said for its underground. From what the exploration group could see and the building's plans, there are multiple floors going down, with some rooms containing precious supplies. The first basement even has the generator room, which provides the energy for the entire building.

And yet, nobody dares to explore further, for the basement is partially submerged. Richard and his friends initially didn't make much of the puddle that formed at their feet, surmising a leak somewhere. But before long, it was apparent that the water was not ordinary here either, full of Treacherous waves and even more dangerous currents that tried to drown them.

They barely escaped with their lives, with Terry crippled after a water blade cut his left leg's Achilles tendon. They fled the basement and when they returned, barricaded the door to make sure the dangers below wouldn't creep after them. For a time, it seemed to work. But the water level is rising, slowly rusting the metal door until it will break through again. In the meantime, cries can be heard at night, on the other side of the door, and more than one person had to be restrained to prevent them from opening the dreaded door.
