The Church of Desna
Desna was one of the first deities, but while her peers burdened themselves with the task of creating Golarion, she spent her time building the heavens. She knew that there would be plenty of time for her and her followers to explore the many wonders of the world later. She's changed little since those earlier days, and she and her followers delight in exploring the world.
Desna is a Varisian goddess often described as a beautiful woman, with butterfly wings containing all the beauty of a clear night sky. She is often depicted as having dark hair, silvery eyes, and a coy but distant smile, wearing diaphanous gowns and sometimes accompanied by swarms of butterflies.
Mythology & Lore
The Parable of the Blind Child
In eons past, when the gods walked the world, Densa the Dreamer did offer battle to Lamashtu the Mother of Monsters for the injury that her foe did to one whom the dreamer loved as a father. The two goddesses battled through the skies over the world until Lamshtu gained the upper hand and cast Desna down in firey ruin upon the world below. Immortally wounded, the dreamer would have died there if not for the kindness of a blind and crippled child who found her and nursed the goddess back to heath with the faith and beauty that lived within the child's soul. It was this faith and beauty that Densa realized would eventually be the downfall of the ugly and cruel Lamashtu, but only if it was spread far and wide for all the world to see. So, as reward for the service the child rendered unto a goddess, Desna transformed the child into the first butterfly, a creature that reflected the child's inner beauty. And the goddess charged her new creation to travel over the entire world, spreading beauty and joy.Tenets of Faith
