BUILD YOUR OWN WORLD Like what you see? Become the Master of your own Universe!

Worldember Pledge- 2025

During WorldEmber I want to develop my worldbuilding, having been reliant on published worlds for both D&D and Warhammer FRP games before now. To do that I've created a new setting, Rìoghachd Ribeanach, to write a geography and political environment for.

I pledge to write at least 10000 words on these topics.

This gives me an opportunity to work through where my adventurers will be questing and set a tone that'll be appropriate for either D&D5e or Shadowdark RPG. As a GamesMaster I prefer a slightly grimmer world with a narrower selection of adventuring species, so tend to play in Greyhawk rather than Forgotten Realms, and the Gloaming of Shadowdark. My aim is to create an environment with a similar tone.

To prepare I have

  • Updated my author profile - Added a profile photo, social media and some inspirations
  • Defined my scope - Geography and politics
  • Joined the WorldAnvil community on Discord
  • Read Millennium, by Tom Holland
  • Prepared a list of articles I'm intending on writing

The articles I'm intending on writing include:

  • The extent of Rìoghachd Ribeanach
  • Transport networks
  • Geographic features
  • Major conurbations
  • Economy
  • Political structure

These article allow me to create an environment to then use to create adventures using D&D 5e or Shadowdark RPG mechanics either online or locally in person.

The book Millennium by Tom Holland is one of a series of his works on the development of western society since the Roman era. This one focuses on the period from 800CE to around 1200CE mainly in Europe, considering the nature of faith and belief as the Christian church emerged as a significant political entity and it's effect on political structures, governance and the economy in a time of apocalyptic uncertainty. In conjunction with a wide range of historical reading, this helps to create a political and belief environment that might reasonably develop in this type of geography.
