Endless Hunger
Endless Hunger Progression Magic Item, Attuned
Created by a dark ritual, this blade fuels it's might from the souls of the dead it consumes. It contains the will of the man that became the blade. It appears to be made of a liquid metal that forms into the shape of a weapon. As it eats, blood can be seen running through it and into its hilt.
Blade of the World Eater: Endless Hunger has 3 charges. Some features expend charges, and it regains 1d4 - 1 charges each dusk.
Liquid Metal: Endless Hunger is able to shift its form to the will of the wielder. During a long rest, you may spend 1 charge shift it into the form of a melee weapon of your choice that you are proficient in that has no special properties (such as reach). Endless Hunger is treated as that weapon until it is changed again using this feature.
Carrion Feeder: Endless Hunger consumes nearby corpses, each corpse taking one minute for medium and smaller creatures, ten minutes for large and huge creatures, and one hour for gargantuan creatures. This can be done as part of a long or short rest and consumes their soul in the process (soul is considered consumed when the corpse is fully decomposed).
Consumer of Souls: Endless Hunger grows more powerful when you consume an extraordinarily strong soul. (The DM will inform you when this happens) For each of these powerful souls, Endless Hunger gains new effects.
1: The blade has tasted power and craves more. It now takes half the time for it to eat corpses.
2: Endless Hunger longs to tell others of its appetite and can now communicate with anyone within a 10ft radius telepathically in a language they understand. Additionally, it now has 4 maximum charges.
3: The blade has grown stronger through its meals. You now gain +1 to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
4: Endless Hunger pulses with the souls it has consumed. It now has the Soul Eater feature.
Soul Eater: You may spend a charge and use a bonus action to cause the ebb and flow of the souls within the blade to grow stronger. For the next minute, you now deal 1d4 bonus force damage on damage rolls made with Endless Hunger.
5: The blade has learned how to see the very minds of those it consumes. You may spend two charges while consuming a corpse to cast Speak with Dead on the corpse you are currently consuming.
6: The ritual is nearing completion. The Soul Blade feature now adds 1d6 force damage instead of 1d4.
7: Endless Hunger has learned to have much more power within it. It now has 5 maximum charges, and regains 1d6 - 1 charges each dusk.
8: The blade has hunted countless prey. You now gain +2 to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
9: Endless Hunger has learned to find the weak points of its foes, and now attacks made with it land a critical hit on a 19 or 20.
10: The ritual is complete, and the blade is satiated. The Soul Blade feature now adds 1d8 force damage instead of 1d6, and lasts for ten minutes.
