True Compass
"Take this my friend, lest you lose your way out in the desert. I would hate to have furbished you with all this equipment only for you to die out there with it. It'll make sure you're always heading in the right direction, as well as pointing you towards water. That's important, the water you have with you won't be enough, you'll have to forage.
Let's see, what else... Oh, don't trust the dust spirits, they just want the water in your skin. They'll try to whisper to you in your own voice and distract you from your goal, drive you into confusion and make a mistake. Careful with the scorpions out there, if you get bit you won't make it to the next settlement. The little ones, not the big ones. The big ones are harmless, though the initial sting can hurt quite a lot.
Oh, if you get caught in a sandstorm and see lights? Check the compass. More often than not it's the souls of the lost trying to get you to join them."
A magical implement that, while difficult to produce and not widespread, is an incredibly useful tool for anyone who has to traverse an unknown landscape, both travelers and nomads.
Enchanted to always keep its heading, a True Compass will always point to a person's intended destination (with some caveats, such as not doing elevation so well), and is even resistant to magical obfuscation. Not perfect, but general magical interference, as well as amateur to even apprentice-skill attempts at disruption, need not be a concern for the wary traveler.
For the nomad, it's arguably more important feature is the ability to detect and direct one to surface resources, namely water. It can do things like lumber, or even particular kinds of stone as wekk, but water is something that everyone needs and universally needed.
