The Rangers of the Moon
There are those who abuse magic in the shadows of the night, hoping that the darkness will hide their crimes from the gods.
We will not let it be so. We carry these crescent badges as both a sign of our commitment to our task, and as representation of the daylight we carry with us into the night.
All those that practice dark magic shall be rooted out, no matter what we must do to find them and combat their rites.
Founded in the time of Camlann, the current rangers of the moon started as the knights of the moon, a chivalric order under King Gowyr's command.
When first created they had little difference to any other order of knights in purpose or makeup, but over time they developed a reputation as mage-hunters and a general anti-magic force. That isn't to say that they don't use magic, but their specialization was, and remains, in fighting other magic users.
They were fervent in their efforts, seeming to take on a mentality similar to the Witch Hunters that crop up in time of great societal stress. It was this mentality that likely allowed them to survive the fall of Camlann, as they were less tied to the kingdom like the other orders, and their purpose could still be fulfilled and pursued without receiving orders from the king.
While the Priests of Silent Graves are focused on dealing with the undead in both intentional and unintentional existences, the Rangers of the Moon are working to stop the misuse of all forms of magic, and are largely dedicated to human misuses, and not the more naturally occurring misbegotten magical creatures.
