How It Works
Spellcasting in General
Spellcasting is what the caster makes of it and/or believes it to be. It can be a subtle or showy affair but is consistently effective. Some casters picture the outcome and will it to be so. Some follow archaic and often esoteric rituals which are tried and true. Yet others take a more experimental approach and test differing casting methods. (it is these caster who usually end up splitting one spell into two similar spells) Certain magic users simply channel the magic through them and let it cast itself. Many others use even more varied methods to cast spells. The terms below correspond to various D&D classes but most arcane descriptions are used interchangeably in Rey'pelulentWizard
Wizards are arcane scholars. Most seek to explain magic as a science. They compile the information regarding the casting and effects of spells in their spellbooks. h]Sorcerer Sorcerers are conduits for the latent magic which is imbued in all things. They are able to direct this magic and alter it as it passes through their being.Warlock
Warlocks channel the magical energy which naturally flows from their patron. Because of this their magical abilities mirror the essence of the great being from whence it is derived.Cleric/Paladin
Holy casters are incredibly diverse. Different gods provide differing sources of magic. Some deities unlock latent magical abilities within their devout whilst others pour divine energy into their priest. Still other gods use themselves as an aqueduct for the magic energy of their home realm. Deities can also treat their worshiper like a patron does a warlock or can have a completely different method of magical blessing.Bard
Bards, like sorcerers, harness the natural magic of the world. They derive magic from the musical vibrations they send through air and aether.Druid
Druids, similar to sorcerers channel the natural magic of the earth. The world itself is their patron.Ranger
Similar to Druidic magic but with the logical focus of a wizardAncient Books
These relics contain powerful spells otherwise lost. The spells are unordered and chaotic. The knowledge gained from these mouldy tomes eats away at the mind of the caster.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
